2013 Project Life – Week 1

Project Life   /

Before we delve into Week 1…Yes, I realise I haven’t posted the title page… that might be because I haven’t done it yet… Ok, yes, that is definitely the case. But remember in my last post I did mention that I do PL my way? So I reserve the right to do it in whichever order I please. ha!

First, the full spread. Now there is an insert as it was a birthday week. Yup, my Mum is unlucky enough to share her birthday with New Year’s Day. She hates it.

Here’s a close up of the left hand side. The photos are all from my Mum’s two birthday parties. The photos from the restaurant aren’t the best quality – indoors at night with our smart phones and smudgy kiddy fingers over the lens… bugger. Ha! Never mind, it’s the memories and stories that count.

This is the front of the insert, with more birthday photos. I didn’t think they needed too much embellishing with those pretty twinkly lights in the background 🙂 I did add a little label and button to indicate that it flips over.

Look at my family…aren’t they beautiful and perfect?! (Ok, now you know not every family is perfect, but they are perfectly mine)
This is the back of the insert. I turned 2 photos to black & white – 1 really wasn’t good quality, and the photo of Kelsi giving Mum a quick birthday kiss I will use for a full 12″ layout one day and will use it in colour then, so I didn’t want it being too obvious that it’s the same photo. Plus it balances the page when I don’t just have one B&W.
Here’s the right hand side. It was school holidays, and finally after births, birthdays, lots of shopping, Christmas, and New Year, we could finally start to settle down a bit. So lots of happy snaps, selfies and personality shots to start off this PL year with a bang. I especially love where my daughter is sitting there so sweet for the photo and my son decides to pull funny faces right behind her. It looks like he’s yelling, he wasn’t (thank goodness). As it was a favourite photo, I doodled around the edge. I really like that look and will try to use it more often as a subtle highlight. I used a numbering system on this page. It probably didn’t need it, but there you go, I’ll try anything once.

I bought the digital edition of the BH PL Olive Kit specifically so I could print out my journaling if I wanted to. My printer tends to print them a different colour than the physical core kit. So I opened up the journaling cards in Photoshop Elements 10, typed my journaling, and before printing it, I removed the image layer, leaving simply the journaling. Then I just popped the physical card through my printer and printed directly onto that. If anyone is interested, I can pop up a tutuorial on that to explain it better.

So that’s the full week. Here’s what it looks like with the insert in place. You can see that I popped all the birthday photos on the LHS and across to the insert. Myself, I don’t like to have all like photos on either side of the insert – although other people seem to be able to pull it off ok. Those lucky creative peeps!
