Insta-Mum’s Day {LPS May Sketch Challenge}

Challenge, Layout, Sketch   /   Tags:

Not that we did anything out of the ordinary for Mother’s Day this year, but I decided to document it using Instagram. I’ll post more photos soon, but in the meantime I wanted to share this layout that I created for the May Sketch Challenge over at Life.Paper.Scrapbook. using said photos. Firstly, the sketch…

This sketch really leaned itself to using Instagram {square} photos. Given my Instagram’d Mother’s Day, I had plenty of recent, inspirational, and related photos to choose from, and my favourite peeps just had to make an appearance – lucky there’s now 4 of them!

LPS May 2013 Sketch

“You Make My Heart Sing” by Sandra Bunch

The Potty People wood veneer by Studio Calico are possibly my favourite part of this page. Not because it’s great design, not because they’re colourful, and not even because wood veneers are just “so hot right now”. Nope, it’s all sentimental. Which is exactly why I do what I do. My sweet daughter loved these wooden guys as much as I did, and while I was having some scrappy time on Mother’s Day, she came up with this little ensemble. So of course, I had to include it in this layout 🙂 How cute is she to put Baby O in my arms?!

Another thing to note is the doily, which started out life as a regular white paper doily. I misted it with 2 different Glimmermists – Starfish & Vintage Pink (because one mist is never enough!). I then stamped it with Kaisercraft ‘Script’ clear stamp in Versacolor Old Rose. And before that baby dried entirely, I did something very technical and very difficult (not)… I scrunched it all up! And then unscrunched to dry completely.

{ Side note: If you don’t have a generic script text background stamp, get one! They add a beautiful texturised faux layer, and can also fill any trapped white space without drawing attention to it. }

Materials: Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic paper, stickers & chipboard, Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm paper, paper doily, Kaisercraft ‘Script’ stamp & yellow flag sticker, Kaisercraft cloud wooden flourish & chipboard hearts (covered in washi), Studio Calico Potty People wood veneer, Glimmermist, Martha Stewart butterfly punch, October Afternoon Tin Pin.

      Thanks Lucia. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment. I’m not sure why, but I don’t often work with black & whites, so it was fun to do so on this one. It really frees up the colour choices 🙂
