Mixing it up: Amy Tangerine, Dear Lizzy, My Mind’s Eye

Layout   /

I received my February Polly! Scrap Kits Salted Caramel Ice Cream pocket style scrapping kit this week, and I’ve already begun playing! Although not in the way you may think because it’s not on a Project Life layout. You see, I’m on a bit of a mission to use up some old scraps and mix them with the new, and that’s exactly what I’ve done here. Quite honestly, if you had have asked me to mix bright, graphic Amy Tangerine with softly distressed My Mind’s Eye, once upon a time I may have laughed. However, now I can say in all honesty, it works!

This layout in particular is for Jot Magazine’s February mood board challenge with it’s lovely warm colour palette.

It’s quite unlike me not to pull any colours from the photo, but if I really squint, my daughter’s dress does have orange. And when I found the orange woodgrain paper from Amy Tangerine’s Here And There collection in my stash, I decided I’d just have to find a way to make it work! I also wanted to incorporate florals, pulling from the top right mood board photo. This old Dear Lizzy paper also has orange flowers and is nice and soft so not too distracting as a background paper. Obviously the AT orange woodgrain is much richer in colour, so I chose to use that to help guide the eye around the page with some colour pops. Pairing it with the richer brown accents (the camera has been fussy cut from another AT paper), and slightly distress inking all edges… all of a sudden, everything looks matchy-matchy!

I certainly didn’t want to go overboard with embellishments, and needed something to contrast from my rectangles, so circles was the perfect option. I kept it soft, and added a My Mind’s Eye project life filler card from the Polly kit, and found some others to punch circles from and use as simple accents.

Finished off with some a simple twine swirl and bow, and punched butterflies. Oh and of course, the number one priority for me on this layout was using the new wooden dots, which I’ve been pining for since CHA! { I must say though, they’re somewhat higher than I expected, so they might not exactly be a Project Lifer’s go-to embellishment. }

I was really done in no time (ok…. not really…. I really need to work on committing sooner so I can get it done haha!)
