Sleep Time or Play Time?

Layout   /   Tags:

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in some of my favourite online challenges, so this past Saturday night I indulged in some scrappy time!

First up is one of my favourite photos of my eldest son when he was 9 months old. He was crawling about, and as any child does, would do anything to avoid going to bed at nights. {Hmmm…. he still does it, some things never change!} Lucky he was the cutest kid ever (no bias here!) with a smile that would light up any room. I treasure these photos of him smiling so naturally, as these days they seem to be forced smiles captured, and they just don’t have the same magic.

Before I continue on, I should mention that the colour palette for this layout was inspired by Life Paper Scrapbook’s August 2013 Colour Challenge.

And now on with the show… These Tim Holtz Idea-ology label letters are one of my favourite go-to items at the moment. By now you probably know how much I love my long titles … these small alphas are perfectly on trend but small enough that I can build a nice long title on any page. They’re awesome value for money as you get so many pages in the pack. The quality is great too, the contrasting black & white really ‘pop’ on any page.

For this layout I coloured some of the label letters with a Stampin’ Up! marker – I think it really helps tie the title into the page that much more, as well as giving some playful variety.

Oh and I absolutely adore how these Glitz rub-ons look just like another strip of washi. They’ve been sitting in my stash for years… I can’t believe I haven’t used them yet! The “X” wood veneers have been dyed with Black Velvet Color Shine – the gold tint in the mist works perfectly with the colours on this layout.

My 6yo daughter helped with this layout, and (to give credit where credit’s due) the stamped stars, wood veneer stars and glitter were all her idea. She even helped by colouring some of the stars with various Stampin’ Up! markers. It was right about bed time though, so she didn’t get to finish the page with me, and when she woke up this morning she was devastated that I’d added the Color Shine sprinkles… each to their own 🙂

Last but not least, this chalkboard tape – what can I say, this stuff is perfectly on-trend for CHA Summer 2013. Ok, so it’s not exactly chalkboard material, but I used my white Gelly Roll pen and it looks fabulous!

HOT TIP: If you wet your finger or a cotton bud, you can wipe off the white pen on the chalkboard tape. If you don’t wipe it all the way off, you’ll keep some residue on there, which will make your ‘chalkboard’ look more realistic!

So there you have it, layout # 1 for the night. Stay tuned in the next day or so for a little tribute to my sister in # 2 layout.
